BOULDER CITY EVENTS MADE SAFE BY MERIDIAN BARRIERS

BOULDER CITY, NV, US, November 1, 2023 – These days in Boulder City, NV the Archer 1200 Barriers supplied to the city by Meridian Rapid Defense Group are a common sight at many public events.

The Boulder City Review newspaper recently explained that its readers had probably noticed “something a little out of the ordinary” on the roads leading to public gatherings. The Archer barriers were first used at last year’s Community Christmas Tree lighting at Frank Crowe Park and since then at most events where street closings were imperative.

Lt. Vince Albowicz of the Boulder City Police Department said, “The barriers have been deemed to be invaluable. There are people in the world who would purposely like to hurt others, however, sometimes accidents also do occur.”

“There have been many documented incidents where a driver of a vehicle accidentally stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake. There have also been incidents where a driver of a vehicle has suffered a medical episode and crashed a vehicle, unintentionally injuring someone. Having the barriers in place is an extra measure of safety for both our residents and visitors.”

The Archer 1200 Barriers have passed a high level of crash testing and are approved by the US Department of Homeland Security, which is an important certification.

Meridian CEO Peter Whitford has watched MRDG grow steadily as police departments, cities and event organizers realized the need for greater on street security for people attending their events.

“As we are seeing these days, the ramifications for everyone involved are horrendous if for some reason a rogue vehicle plows into a crowded area. We’ve designed our barriers to stop that sort of incident and, as a critical feature, they are mobile so they can be easily placed. But say, for some reason, the perimeter of the event needs to be changed, that’s when the mobility of the Archer 1200 Barrier comes into play. With the wheels down, despite its extreme strength and weight, one person can move the barrier from one spot to another.”

Lt. Albowicz told the Boulder City Review that he supports the idea of using the barriers continually after having had the opportunity to test and evaluate them during the last year.

“The barriers differ from fixed bollards since they can be deployed wherever they are needed. As for the need for the barriers, it depends on how people look at a safety measure but it’s worth using something which is designed to prevent injuries or loss of life whether accidentally or intentionally,” he said.

Boulder City joins cities, sports stadiums and event planners all over US which now stipulate that Archer 1200 Barriers must be used at all events involving crowds, large or small. They were most recently used at the Wurst Festival put on by the Boulder City Sunrise Rotary Club where they celebrate not only the wonderful taste of a bratwurst, but also raise money for local charities with a live auction and entertainment.

MERIDIAN CREATES SAFE ZONE FOR TAYLOR AND HER SWIFTIES

This was an enormous area to close off with several public streets and walkways leading into The Grove. We teamed with The Grove security, and police and fire to make sure every entrance was covered.”— Peter Whitford, Meridian CEO

LOS ANGELES, CA, US, October 13, 2023 — When Taylor Swift secretly came to town for her highly anticipated Eras Tour concert film premiere, Meridian Rapid Defense Group was able to quickly answer the call to create a secure zone for Taylor and her 2,200 invited Swifties.

Organizers made the unprecedented decision to close down LA’s upscale shopping destination, The Grove, for an entire day in preparation for the big night. While the massive red carpet was rolled out, Meridian’s teams brought in Archer 1200 Barriers and Archer Beam Gates as part of the security plan.

Peter Whitford, Meridian CEO said, “This was an enormous area to close off with several public streets and walkways leading into The Grove. We teamed with The Grove security, and police and fire to make sure every entrance was covered.”

Each of the streets was secured by the enormously popular beam gate. In all, seven Archer Beam Gates were needed. The ease of use of the gates allowed emergency vehicles and delivery trucks to still have access to restricted areas. Because the gates don’t need electrical power or hydraulics to operate, they could be placed anywhere around the site and moved quickly as necessary.

“The Archer 1200 Barriers have been used at The Grove for several years now although for this particular event we brought in another 20 barriers,” said Mr. Whitford. “We find that an increasing number of event organizers are choosing the Archer 1200 Barriers because they know they can be so easily moved. They are mobile but strong enough to stop a speeding vehicle if needed as we’ve seen in our crash tests.”

The highly anticipated premiere attracted not only Swifties but celebrities including Beyonce, Mariska Hargitay, Adam Sandler and Flava Flav. With the open-air shopping, lifestyle and dining destination closed off for the occasion, the fans were able to spread out and even get one-on-one selfies with Taylor as she took her time walking the red carpet.

Both the Archer barrier and beam gate have undergone rigorous crash tests to ensure the highest level of safety. The Archer 1200 Barriers are constructed from 700 lbs. of American-made steel although because of their unique design and mobility can be easily moved by one person.

Meridian’s Archer 1200 Barriers have been used for large-scale SEAR (Special Events Assessment Rating) Level 1 events such as the Tournament of Roses Parade and Game, the Presidential Inauguration, as well as NFL, MLS, and other locations. The product, as well as Meridian’s deployment training, have been awarded The SAFETY Act Designation.

WASHINGTON D.C. EVENT MADE SAFER BY MERIDIAN

Having huge dump trucks blocking the streets and their engines idling all day, they are an environmental issue, as well as having someone sitting in the truck, that’s a human resource issue.”— Kristen Barden, Adams Morgan Partnership BID

WASHINGTON, DC, USA, September 14, 2023 — The debut of the Archer 1200 mobile barriers at this year’s Adams Morgan Day event garnered widespread acclaim from attendees and event organizers alike.

With thousands of pedestrians participating in the D.C. area’s longest running and most celebrated multicultural festival, Meridian Rapid Defense Group formulated a security strategy that allowed event planners to replace the bulky trucks, buses, and police vehicles that had previously been used to block intersections.

Kristen Barden from the Adams Morgan Partnership BID commented, “I think safety is on people’s minds and we have heard from a whole lot of people that they don’t want to see a huge police presence. And as for the alternative to the barriers, having huge dump trucks blocking the streets and their engines idling all day, they are an environmental issue, as well as having someone sitting in the truck, that’s a human resource issue.”

The Archer 1200 Barriers, despite their 700-pound weight and capacity to halt moving vehicles, are remarkably mobile, requiring just one person to wheel them into position. They have become a common sight at crowded events across the United States and are frequently deployed at venues like Audi Field for soccer and XFL games in the D.C. area.

Peter Whitford, CEO of Meridian Rapid Defense Group, emphasized, “We designed these barriers to ensure that event attendees can easily move between them without hindrance. This is a significant improvement compared to the past when long concrete and water barriers, along with heavy vehicles, obstructed the event entrances. Considering recent tragedies involving vehicles driving into crowds, prioritizing event safety is imperative for event planners.”

Washington D.C. has acquired three drop deck trailers and 24 Archer 1200 Barriers from Meridian for use at various future events and parades.

Brian Kavanagh representing the Adams Morgan Community Alliance told NBC News 4 his group is enthusiastic about the decision to acquire and utilize the barriers for Adams Morgan Day. “We think it’s a huge win for everybody. And compared to all the security set ups in the past. Its more attractive and looks a lot less like an accident scene and more like a festival.”

The Adams Morgan Day Festival showcased numerous highlights, including the transformation of the Dance Plaza through the Dance, Dance, r(E)volution project, a celebration of local and international cultures, a diverse array of local performances, specialty vendors, a vibrant music stage, and a children’s fair.

ALL EYES ON MERIDIAN BARRIERS AT APPLETON MILE OF MUSIC FESTIVAL

This is just another level of safety in case of vehicle assaults, vehicle accidents or maybe a situation where an impaired driver loses control of his or her car.”— Sergeant John Ostermeyer

APPLETON, WI, US, August 8, 2023 — Along with a host of new artists at the annual Appleton Mile of Music Festival there was also a new perimeter security plan in place for concertgoers.

Appleton Police Department went to extraordinary lengths this year by bringing in Meridian Rapid Defense Group to ensure the safety of the 80,000 people attending the popular weekend event.

Meridian’s Archer 1200mobile Barriers were placed at several pedestrian entry points to the entertainment areas. The security set-up was featured on the WLUK Fox 11 nightly news.

Sergeant John Ostermeyer told Fox 11, “This is just another level of safety in case of vehicle assaults, vehicle accidents or maybe a situation where an impaired driver loses control of his or her car.”

The Archer 1200 Barrier replaces the older more cumbersome concrete or water barriers which often act as more of an obstruction for crowds trying to get into an event. In contrast, the Archer 1200’s, approved by the Department of Homeland Security, are placed in such a way they allow free access for the fans, yet they are a solid steel defense against an out-of-control car or truck.

To highlight the strength and stopping power of the barriers, Fox 11 included footage of Archer 1200 Barriers being crash tested. Viewers saw how a speeding car was brought to a dead stop within a short distance.

“We’ve seen a big increase in demand for our barriers ever since the November 2019 Waukesha Christmas Parade attack,” said Eric Alms, President of Meridian Rapid Defense Group. In that attack a man drove his vehicle onto the parade route killing six people and injuring 62 others.

“What’s happening, not only in Wisconsin, but nationwide, is that all of law enforcement is getting very focused on a better level of protection for crowded spaces. Seeing the Archer 1200’s at the Mile of Music, which are the strongest, pure mobile vehicle barriers in the world, it is easy to understand why so many cities and police departments are now making it their barrier of choice,” said Mr. Alms.

Event organizer Dave Willems was happy to see the extra precautions in place. “I think they’re a huge addition because with the barriers, the things you can do visually, really help. You want people to know that there are efforts being made to keep them safe. And then there’s the fact that this year we have made those extra plans.”

Appleton resident, Tarynn Johnson, told Fox 11 seeing the barriers made her feel better about attending the festival. “When the barriers are there, it gives you the idea that there is safety and there is a police presence on the different side streets,” said Ms. Johnson.

MERIDIAN ON GUARD DUTY AT WRIGLEY FIELD

The Cubs are using four beam gates and because the gates don’t need any electrical power or hydraulics to operate, it becomes a simple task for them to move a gate to any location with ease.”— Peter Whitford, Meridian CEO

CHICAGO, IL, US, July 18, 2023 — Meridian Rapid Defense Group’s unique Archer Beam Gates are contributing to ensure a safer environment for Chicago Cubs fans at Wrigley Field.

With the baseball stadium situated in a high traffic density urban location, the beam gates provide the perfect solution for quickly closing off the streets around Wrigley Field. While the crash tested beam gates provide a tight security zone for pedestrians, their ease of use still allows for authorized vehicles such as team buses and delivery vehicles to pass into restricted zones.

“A primary attraction for any organization using the Archer Beam Gates is how quickly and easily they can be placed,” said Peter Whitford, CEO of Meridian Rapid Defense Group. “For this particular location the Cubs are using four beam gates and because the gates don’t need any electrical power or hydraulics to operate, it becomes a simple task for them to move a gate to any location with ease and most importantly to break it down and take it away at the end of the day.”

Archer Beam Gates are used around the country and often in conjunction with Meridian’s top selling product; the Archer 1200 Barrier. The Archer Barriers are a common sight around Chicago with Chicago P.D. deploying them for the many different events throughout the city. The beam gate and barriers have also been in use at Navy Pier for specific events recently.

Mr. Whitford said, “As part of the Meridian standard with any sale or rental of our product we always include thorough training sessions for all those working with our beam gates and barriers. The recent ASTM (American Society for Testing Materials) certified crash test of the beam gate showed once again it has impressive stopping power. Those certified test results showed that it would stop a heavy vehicle, in that case a speeding truck, from smashing through into a pedestrian area.”

Because of recent tragic situations involving cars being driven into crowds either by accident or intentionally, stadium security staff and event planners need solutions that are purpose-built and tested to address the possibility of that type of incursion.

“Communities cannot continue to rely on equipment that wasn’t designed for or intended to mitigate vehicle rammings,” said Mr. Whitford. “We develop all our products to provide reliable effectiveness and for easy deployment.”

The Archer 1200 Barriers and Beam Gates are regularly used for large-scale SEAR (Special Events Assessment Rating) Level 1 events like the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, the Presidential Inauguration and the Super Bowl.

MERIDIAN CONTINUES NATIONWIDE EXPANSION BY CREATING SEPARATE RENTAL AND SALES DIVISIONS

ERIC ALMS TAKES ON NEW ROLE AS MERIDIAN RENTALS CEO

We’ve had explosive growth with so many clients needing to rent, we found it necessary to dedicate a full-time effort and a full-time staff to the rental side of our business.”— Eric Alms, Meridian Rental CEO

PASADENA, CA, USA, May 16, 2023 —- MERIDIAN Rapid Defense Group, a leader in the mobile security barrier business, continues its coast-to-coast expansion with the announcement of new hubs to service an upsurge in rental activity.

Now with rental hubs in Jacksonville, FL and Ventura, CA, Meridian’s teams of specialists can work quickly to create a rental package no matter what the size of an event. Included in all rental packages are a fully certified VSMP (Vehicle Safety Mitigation Plan) and an After-Action Report.

Both sales and rentals of barriers and beam gates grew rapidly to a point where it became inevitable that a separate company structure, dividing sales from rentals, was needed. Demand for Meridian’s products has resulted in more than 1.2 million Archer 1200 Barriers being out on U.S. streets during the last four years.

The restructuring means Eric Alms will head up Meridian Rentals as CEO while continuing his existing role as President of Meridian Rapid Defense Group.

“We’ve had explosive growth with so many clients needing to rent, we found it necessary to dedicate a full-time effort and a full-time staff to the rental side of our business,” said Mr. Alms.

“It’s interesting that many of those renting, such as law enforcement, festivals, and events, have previously purchased Meridian Archer barriers and beam gates but needed even more for one-off large events. Renting, in those circumstances, made good financial sense for the event organizers,” said Mr. Alms.

Mr. Alms pointed out that no matter the size of the event, whether it is the annual Rose Parade in Pasadena, where Meridian teams set out more than 600 barriers, or the local farmers’ market with ten barriers, there’s a Meridian rental plan to fit.

As the nation’s leading perimeter safety and security mobile barrier company, Meridian Rapid Defense Group is committed to providing the same high level of service to renters as it has to its ever-growing traditional purchase customer base.

There’s been an extraordinary increase in rentals by many of our current customers. Interestingly, the option to rent, along with all the added services Meridian provides, has doubled our existing customer base. Having a dedicated focus on rental allows us to concentrate more on each client’s unique needs,” said Mr. Alms.

Be assured as Meridian continues to grow, creating zones that make people, communities, and places safer remains the company’s long standing commitment.

MERIDIAN LAUNCHES NEW WORKER SAFETY PRODUCT IN TIME FOR NATIONAL WORK ZONE AWARENESS WEEK

We designed the Meridian Archer-Guard to bring a vehicle to a slow controlled stop if it passes into a restricted area, particularly work zones on freeways and roads.”— Peter Whitford, Meridian CEO

PASADENA, CA, USA, April 19, 2023/EINPresswire.com/ — The latest product from Meridian Rapid Defense Group is drawing praise for its ease of use and increased ability to ensure the safety of road workers around the nation. The Archer-Guard is a safety barrier system which, because of its mobility, is ideal for creating safer work zones quickly and securely.

Meridian, with its MASH (The Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware) tested products, has a history of protecting people, communities, and places at crowded events using its patented safety barrier technology. Now with the Archer-Guard that same quality protection is available in the world of transport and traffic management.

Meridian CEO Peter Whitford said, “We designed the Meridian Archer-Guard to bring a vehicle to a slow controlled stop if it passes into a restricted area, particularly work zones on freeways and roads. If this happens each of the three connected barriers will surround the vehicle upon impact and drag the vehicle to a stop.”

“As we recognize National Work Zone Awareness Week, we are pleased to know that this new technology will help ensure greater safety for those who are out in work zones on the highways and roads across the nation on a daily basis.”

This recognition of work zone awareness takes place annually across the United States, with partnerships between state departments of transportation (DOT), national road safety organizations, government agencies, private companies, and individuals.

Unfortunately, deaths in work zones of pedestrians, including many road workers, are still on the rise. In 2020, 857 people were killed in 774 fatal work zone crashes, according to the most recent data available from workzonesafety.org.

One of the major causes of accidents is cell phone use while driving. But other common distractions include people changing settings in the vehicle, talking with others in the car, grooming, texting and eating.

The advantage of the Archer-Guard system is its mobility. Each Archer-Guard has wheels and can be quickly moved from location to location. For instance, in a situation where a road crew is filling potholes, the Archer-Guard can quickly move along with them. The barriers can be moved by one person, doing away with the need to bring in heavy equipment which other systems use.

“Although it is a relatively new product,” said Mr. Whitford “we’re already getting very positive feedback from organizations using the Archer-Guard system. With the option of either buying or renting, organizations using our Archer 1200 Barriers to protect crowded events for years are now also seeing how they can ensure greater safety for their road repair crews.”

“Mainly they tell us about the huge advantage of having something that ensures even greater safety for their workers and at the same time being so mobile. They can get much more work done in a day because of the way the Archer-Guard can be set up and then quickly moved on to the next location.”

MERIDIAN RAPID DEFENSE GROUP ACTIVATES AT AUDI FIELD

Audi Field is delighted to have Meridian’s barriers deployed at our venue. These resources contribute significantly to Audi Field’s safety and security plans.”— Kevin Clark, Audi Field’s Director of Security

WASHINGTON, DC, USA, March 10, 2023 — Audi Field has chosen Meridian Rapid Defense Group as its partner to ensure even greater safety for fans and ground employees for the entire football season.

Using both Archer 1200 Barriers and an Archer Beam Gate, Meridian crews at each event will create a safe pedestrian zone for football fans on the roads outside the stadium. For each game the barriers are placed to protect the large crowds moving from the railway station across to Audi Field.

Kevin Clark, Audi Field’s Director of Security said, “Audi Field is delighted to have Meridian’s barriers deployed at our venue. These resources contribute significantly to Audi Field’s safety and security plans and we’re looking forward to working with Meridian during the 2023 season to further protect our fans and staff.”

The fact that the highly mobile Archer barriers are crash tested and certified by the Department of Homeland Security has always been a major decider when it comes to choosing the best solution to protect pedestrians from out-of-control vehicles. The SAFETY Act certification of Meridian’s Archer 1200 Barrier ensures government guaranteed protection in the case of an act of terrorism.

“To improve fan safety at Audi Field our Meridian crews will be there all season, not only for D.C. United’s games but also for the Washington Spirit women’s soccer matches and, this year, the D.C. Defenders XFL clashes,” said Peter Whitford, Meridian CEO. “Audi is one of many stadiums, nationwide, which have now chosen to be protected by Meridian.”

Meridian has also been busy throughout Washington, D.C. with other rental projects, recently providing barriers to secure selected zones and create road closures at the 2022 United States-African Leaders Summit.

Mr. Whitford said, “On day one at Audi Field we were very proud to have received high praise from the D.C. Fire and Emergency Services for the new safety plan we created. After so many tragic situations where cars and trucks, sometimes on purpose, were driven into crowds it’s crucially important that event organizers keep pedestrian safety in mind and take the proper precautions.”

In this case Audi Field executives chose a long-term rental agreement to meet their needs. That plan will involve Meridian crews setting the barriers and then moving them off at each event. Because of the mobility of the barriers there is no need for heavy equipment, as they have had to in the past to move water barriers. The unique design of the mobile Archer 1200 Barrier allows for them to be wheeled into place and removed in a matter of minutes.

MERIDIAN PROTECTING CROWDS FROM COAST TO COAST

PASADENA, CA, US, January 25, 2023 /EINPresswire.com/ — Meridian Rapid Defense Group had its Archer Barriers and Beam Gates spread far and wide across the U.S. for the start of 2023.

America’s favorite New Year’s event, the Rose Parade in Pasadena, CA saw Meridian’s specialists secure the entire five and a half miles of the parade route.

In Florida, the Archer 1200Barriers created a security cordon for the inauguration of Governor Ron DeSantis, while at the NASCAR Safety Summit in North Carolina the Archer Beam Gate and its ease of use was a big talking point for the attendees.

“We’re certainly off to a busy start for the year,” said Peter Whitford, Meridian CEO. “More than ever these days event organizers know they must create a safe zone for their crowded spaces. Parades, in particular, can be high risk events and that is why so many cities and companies are coming to us now seeking a solution.”

For the inauguration ceremony, Meridian’s Archer 1200 Barriers replaced buses, patrol cars and even garbage trucks used in the past to close off the area. Feedback on the barriers was highly positive because of the ease of movement and effectiveness of replacing those previously unsightly vehicle blockades.

Mr. Whitford explained how many of the attendees at the NASCAR Summit were surprised at how easily and quickly the Archer Beam Gate was erected. “The fact that it needs no plug in power and can be put together and operational within 15 minutes was a real talking point,” he said.

At the Rose Bowl game, attended by more than 80,000 fans, four of Meridian’s Archer Beam Gates were used to control the high level of vehicle traffic entering the pedestrian areas while the Archer barriers were again in place across the entire footprint of the event.

The barriers, made of 700 lbs. of U.S. made steel are highly mobile which really mattered when within minutes of the last float passing in the Rose Parade the streets of Pasadena needed to be reopened quickly. Within an hour the city was again open for business as usual.

This was just the start of a big year for Meridian. The Archer Barriers, with their Homeland Security rating, are now a common sight at sporting events across the U.S. Many NFL, MLB and MLS stadiums are protected by Meridian along with local events such as farmers’ markets and fairs.

ROSE PARADE SECURED BY MERIDIAN

Our priority continues to be the safety of our participants, our volunteers, our guests and our staff and everyone in producing these events.”— Tournament of Roses CEO, David Eads

PASADENA, CA, US, December 29, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ — America’s favorite parade, the Rose Parade through the streets of Pasadena, will have a powerful guardian this year. On every cross street of the five-and-a-half-mile route, Meridian Rapid Defense Group’s unique Archer 1200 Barriers will be standing guard.

The protection of people in crowded spaces has become the highest priority for event organizers. Recent tragedies where out of control vehicles were driven into crowds highlight the need for increased security at such events.

“Along the parade route we will have nearly 600 of our barriers,” said Peter Whitford, Meridian CEO. “With a top security rating from the Department of Homeland Security, the barriers sit quite discreetly at all the intersections, compared to the old days when the more primitive concrete and orange water barriers were used for the same purpose.”

The mobility of the Archer 1200 Barrier (it can be wheeled into place by one person) saves the parade organizers time and money to secure the parade route. At the same time the barriers, with the highest pass in crash testing, create a near impenetrable line of defense in case a rogue vehicle tries to break through into a crowded space.

On the night before the parade, Meridian’s team members will roll in the barriers and in a period of barely a few hours, will create a tight ring of security around the entire parade route. When the crowds arrive, they can do so knowing they are safe behind this tested security cordon.

Highlighting the need for a safe and enjoyable day for the large crowds, Pasadena Interim Police Chief Jason Clawson said the parade route will feature heavy security. “Safety for everyone on the day is paramount,” he said.

The Archer barriers are now a common sight at sporting events across the U.S. Many NFL and MLS stadiums have chosen to be protected by Meridian along with NASCAR tracks and parade organizers.

As Tournament of Roses CEO David Eads explained, “Our priority continues to be the safety of our participants, our volunteers, our guests and our staff and everyone in producing these events.” Meridian Rapid Defense Group is proud to be part of that plan.
